Govardhan Puja is performed on the next day of Deepawali. People also know it as Annakoot. This festival has great significance in Indian folk life. In this festival, the direct relationship of human beings with nature is seen. This festival has its own recognition and folklore. When Krishna kept the Govardhan mountain on his smallest finger for seven days to save the Brajwasis from torrential rain and the gop-gopikas lived happily in his shadow. On the seventh day, God put Govardhan down and ordered to celebrate Annakoot festival by performing Govardhan Puja every year. Since then, this festival has been celebrated as Annakoot.
